About the Fund

Craig Doss (1982-2003) is the son of two loving parents, Steve and Judith, and the brother of Sara. In 1999, Craig started experiencing symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder due to a physical illness. He was later diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, and succumbed to it in November of 2003 after a long, hard fight.

Craig (SLUH '00) embodied the spirit of involvement and service SLUH promotes. He excelled academically, participated in service programs and played football and rugby. Craig walked the halls with a smile on his face and helped his classmates achieve their best. He was a man for others, and in his name we started a fund to help others experience the Jesuit education Craig so loved.

The fund will aid Loyola students who wish to continue their Jesuit education at St. Louis University High. Loyola Academy serves young men with the potential for college preparatory work, but who might not otherwise achieve that potential because of external economic or social factors, such as poverty or residence in distressed neighborhoods. The school is open to 6th, 7th and 8th graders, and started with its first class of 6th graders in 1999. Loyola is currently in its 16th year of operation.

In August of 2008, we held our first fundraiser which generated more than $15,000 through admission, a silent auction and generous donations. Since then, Third Degree Glass Factory has helped us host two summer fundraisers, John D. McGurk’s Irish Pub (courtesy of Jim Holloran) has hosted the summer event since 2013, and Franco in Soulard sponsors our annual Christmas event each December. The fund now holds more than $100,000.

The Craig Doss Loyola Fund is a tribute to the love and friendship Craig shared with us. His spirit lives on in all of us, in the young men from Loyola and in the people who support their growth.

We are grateful to you for your generosity, and we hope to see you at the next event!
